Perils for Pedestrians

This roundabout in Malmo, Sweden, features a speed hump 5 meters before the crosswalks on both entry and exit lanes. Experience with pedestrians at roundabouts in Malmo has shown that:

• two lane roundabouts are much more problematic than single lane roundabouts;
• the exits are more dangerous than the entrances;
• positioning a speed hump 5 meters before the crosswalk works better for safety and for traffic flow than positioning one right at the crosswalk.
