Perils for Pedestrians Special Presentation:
Three Things Pedestrians Need

A presentation given by "Perils For Pedestrians" host John Z Wetmore at the Break The Gridlock conference in Chicago on October 12, 2002.

Pedestrians need:

  1. a way to walk parallel to traffic (sidewalks)

  2. a way to get across traffic (crosswalks)

  3. and someplace to walk to (destinations: zoning and land use patterns).

Without all three, walking will not be a convenient transportation choice.
