Perils for Pedestrians - Retrofit Reasons

Fairfax Road in Bethesda, Maryland, has a new sidewalk. The slope on the right-hand side of the street would have required removing trees and putting in a low retaining wall. There was not enough space outside the pavement on the left-hand side. The solution was to move the curb in on the left-hand side, narrowing the road to make space for the sidewalk. .
